Rocker Crop

The pixie crop isn’t disappearing from amongst 2012’s haircut trends, but it is being adapted. We are seeing the pixie crop deviate into several different styles. There are the 60s and 70s crops and, for 2012, there’s the rock crop.

The short haircut for those to whom both the very short fringe and the rockabilly hairstyle appeal, the rock crop takes on an edge in 2012. And it does so in spring / summer 2012 courtesy of the catwalks.

Mod Bob

Short, voluminous and messy. This is the 2012 women’s hairstyle that marries a short haircut with the best of the 1960s fashion revival to create a Mod bob that’s been inspired by Brigitte Bardot and Twiggy.

This is a mid-length haircut for those who want to keep some length but change it up a bit with some added texture.

Long & bouncy

Described as a gorgeous blow-out the bouncy blow dry gives long hair a groomed, elegant finish. Inspired, in part, by the 70s but working across most of 2012′s looks, ensuring that you have the optimum bounce in the roots and the soft waves to frame your face.

Deep Side Part

Whether you have short hair, long hair or something in between, the side part is the fashion forward hair parting in 2012.

The Wet Look

Perfectly slick or tousled and textured, flowing free or tied up high. A great number of hairstyles across the spring / summer 2012 runways had one thing in common: they all had a wet-look finish.

These are some of my favorite summer braids and how to achieve the looks at home.

 Amanda Seyfried’s loose side braid is fabulous.

How to: Make a deep side part. If you normally wear your hair to the left, switch to the right, and vice versa. Styling your hair in the opposite direction of what it’s used to will give a bit of natural lift at the scalp.   Gather hair at the base of the neck and make a loose braid. Use an elastic to secure. Then, with fingers, tug and separate the braid all over so it becomes messy and uneven—this final part is the key to the updated ‘do.

Jessica Albas hair definitely got my attention. Her braided chignon is a great way to add some fun to a sophisticated look.

How to: Start by side parting your hair and then sectioning off about 3 inches thick of hair around your face, this will be the hair you braid back. Pin back the rest of your hair just until you are done braiding. Braid your hair loosely and in the direction of where the braid will be when you are done.  After you have braided as close to the end of your hair as you can secure the ends with a bobby pin so it doesn’t unravel. You can do another section of braid underneath. Unpin the rest of your hair and pull it backwards with your fingers to make sure you keep the messy/pretty look going. Pull your hair back in a messy bun and place the braids where you want them to go you can pull them through the bun and curl any loose hairs that stick out.

You could try the bohemian feel like Rachel Bilson. A great summer hair look that’s easy to do.

How to: Take a small section of hair down each side of your head and braid each one. To make the braid loose, run your fingers from the bottom to the top after you secure them. Take the two braids and pin them at the back of your head with a bobby pin and that’s it!

The fishtail (or Herringbone braid) became a popular trend among celebrities and fashion  istas this year, and we adore this fun yet elegant style. To give your otherwise intricate braid a beachy-chic edge, loosen the braid and take out some strands after you finish.
